Applications must be complete including camper question portion to be reviewed for consideration. THE CAMPER SELF EXPRESSION PIECE THIS YEAR IS THE CAMPER ESSAY PORTION OF THE APPLICATION, videos and artwork are NOT needed to apply in 2024. Several factors influence final decisions regarding camper placement. Those factors include: age, instrument, diversity and interest. When we assign instruments we’re making sure there is an even distribution of ages and instruments so that bands can be formed. Some ages and instrument choices are in greater demand than others. The most common reason we turn an applicant away is that there were too many applications from girls of the same age. We will also take into consideration how many times a child has been to our summer camp, we want as many girls as possible to experience and grow from our programing. Please allow us several weeks to review applications, in the past we have received 90+ applications for 50 camper spots. You will be notified of your acceptance or wait list status by email.
Instrument and Band Assignment: Campers will be assigned one instrument to focus on for the week and will find out what instrument they are playing when they arrive at camp Monday morning. Every day they will have a group lesson in that instrument, and play that instrument in their band. Applicants are asked to share their instrument preferences in the application. Their choices are: voice, guitar, bass, keys or drums. Not all campers will be assigned their first choice. Campers cannot change instruments once their instrument has been assigned. Bands will be formed by camp staff and announced Monday morning at camp.
All instruments are provided. If a camper has their own guitar or bass, they may bring it. Rock n’ Roll Camp for OKC does not accept liability for personal instruments.
Lunch & Snacks: Campers must bring their own lunch and a snack each day. We do not provide lunch for campers. Re-usable water bottles are necessary to help stay hydrated throughout the day. Each day at lunchtime the campers and volunteers will be treated to a live performance! Past lunchtime bands and performers include The So Help Me's, Step Mom, Ali Harter, Carter Sampson, Kierston White, Mallory Eagle, DJs, and KALO!
Our Volunteers: Our volunteers are an awesome bunch of local business owners, artists, musicians, mothers, grandmothers and empowering women and we could not have camp without them! Our volunteer mentors are thoughtfully selected and screened through an online application, in-person or phone interview, and fingerprinting.
Non-Discrimination Policy: Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls OKC values diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical ability, developmental ability, musical interests, learning styles, nationality, religion, thought, citizenship status, and sexual orientation in the administration of its educational programs, admissions policies, scholarships and other camp related policies and programs, as well as volunteer related policies and activities.
